Hugo Edward Byard Gardiner, died suddenly on 24th December 2015, he was 3 years old and 9 months. The coroner determined that an initial viral infection was overtaken by a secondary bacterial infection and the cause of death was Group A Streptococcus Pneumonia.
It was a very virulent strain and fatalities are rare. Much like meningococcal, time is not on your side.

Hugo's parents, Alex & Duane, established Something About Hugo to give back to the small community which nurtured their family as they embarked on this unexpected journey of grief and a discovering their 'new normal' in the months that followed.
​
It was decided to launch a charity that focused on Hugo's age group and the Alpine Imagination Library was established.
